Customer Bulletin: Washout in Southern Saskatchewan
Torrential rains in Southern Saskatchewan over the weekend resulted in the swelling of the Souris River, forcing provincial officials to release water from the Rafferty Dam. As a consequence of the resulting flooding, at 2015 CT on Sunday, a washout occurred on CP's mainline at Roche Percee, SK between the Canada/U.S. border and Moose Jaw, SK.
As water remains high, active mobilization of resources is underway so CP crews can initiate repairs as soon as possible. It is estimated the line will be out of service for a week to ten days. Reroutes over CP lines are being implemented and all alternatives including detours over other railways are being pursued. We will provide updates as available. Shipments through the area will experience a minimum of 48 hour delays.
Downstream at Minot, local officials are keeping a watch on the Souris River at Minot. Should the water rise to the levels currently in the forecast by Thursday, the Army Corps of Engineers may install dikes across CP tracks to protect local communities. We will provide further updates on this dynamic situation as it unfolds.
